One of Dad's favorite when Grandma Mary made these for Sunday breakfast. We served our with applebutter to dip or syrup -Aebleskiver: Dansk for "Apple Slices" are also pancakes and are so light and fluffy and really yum...they are just like large donut holes...fun stuff. This is made with an aebleskiver pan its a specialty and found online- Dont be afraid, its easy to use and men love this dish
A sweet picture of my sister Dolores when she was on a picnic outing in the late 1930's. My memories of this bread was for Danish breakfast open-face sandwiches with my Grandma Mary...you will find a little story about it in my blog. I enjoy this bread as a picnic treat as well. The recipe is from unknown in 1970's after a hunt of dark rye breads that tasted like Grandma's.
I was given this recipe from a family friend and I have used it for Xmas and Easter every since. You can add dried and candied fruits or raisens and yet its great just plain. It has such a light flavor and great smell as it bakes. You will find it a perfect holiday morning toast to have before your tree celebration or egg hunt - Easy to make and super good to eat.
I love cooking and baking...I have a lot of family history to share and I wanted a place to put the family recipes and information so the kids in our family can find the old favorites and enjoy them. I am adding a bit of family history here and there...hope all enjoy the recipes, they are long used and tested ;)
